Another glorious fall, where does the time go? This fall is the beginning of my third year of retirement from St. Paul Public School. On the day the school counselors in St. Paul started back I was on the North Shore where a dear friend and former school counselor, her significant other, my husband and I hiked a section of the Superior Hiking trail. When we returned Susan and I had a glass of wine, toasted our friends back at work, and took pictures with Lake Superior as our backdrop and e-mailed it to them. The caption “What did you do on August 23?” Needless to say, we received many different replies.
Right now I feel so refreshed. This morning I hiked over 2 hours in one of our State Parks. It was glorious. The leaves still have a way to go before they are in full color so lots more days to take advantage of before the snow blows.
I am involved with a group of Minnesota award winning authors who support one another, generate marketing ideas, and do events together. We call ourselves “The Color of Authors.” We have a mystery writer, Marilyn Jax, a children’s author, Anne Picard, a medical/cancer author, Lynne Eldridge MD, a mixed genre author, Mary Lockman, and myself. This group is presently preparing for many Fall/Holiday Art and Craft Fairs. It’s a busy season for promoting and we try to make the most of it. Keep checking my web site to see if there is anything close to where you live.
Power point #@$#! Right now I am teaching myself how to use power point. I have a Mac and went to a one on one class at the store, they use Keynote, not power point, and until we update the laptop Keynote is not an option. Having been raised in the time of typewriters and stenography I pride myself in the fact that I’m not totally computer illiterate, I know what I need to know and even a bit more, with still a long, long, way to go. Wish me luck!
I’ll be presenting my power point at the 29th Annual Woman & Spirituality Conference in Mankato on Saturday, October 23rd – Sunday, October 24th. For more information go to: http://sbs.mnsu.edu/women/ then click Women & Spirituality.
Times are a changing and I am so thankful I am here now! Enjoy the moments.
I had some friends visit from Northern California a few years ago and when they told their friends they were coming to Minnesota, the friends exclaimed, “On purpose?!” Minnesota does get a bum rap, but in truth, it is a well-kept secret, each season is a treasure in itself. I enjoy winter, spring, and summer, yet fall is absolutely my favorite season. In just a few short weeks, the air will get crisp, the leaves will change color, the smells get distinct, and the ducks and geese will migrate and leave my lake. What a glorious time.
The third printing of Tree Spirited Woman arrived this past week. There are minor changes: a few errors corrected and a new picture of me on the author page. The book arrived just in time I only had a few copies left. It’s exciting to think Tree Spirited Woman has reached so many people.
Today a photographer from a local paper came to get some candid shots for a cover story. It was fun walking around my yard, trying to find the right place for some pictures. He took many and I didn’t get to see any. It will be a surprise to see what ends up in print.
Lot’s of events are coming in the near future. Keep checking the web page to see if any are in your area.
Thanks for reading.
So much has happened since my first post. Where to start? First, we moved into our new house and I can honestly say that now after five months if finally feels like home. The other house was on the market for six months before it sold; we were one of the lucky ones, our house sold.
For those of you who read my blog back in December, I apologize for not writing sooner or responding back to you. There were problems with the program and not being computer savvy, I needed Holly, my web designer, to sit with me and take me through it step by step. The posts will be far more regular in the future.
I ordered a kayak yesterday. It is something I have wanted to do for a number of years and decided, life is short, just do it. It will be in next week that gives me a few months to enjoy paddling and building my upper body strength before the snow flies. I’m hoping to figure out how Sara, my cocker spaniel, can ride along.
So much has happened with the book. It is now in numerous gift stores where it is doing fantastic and Thank you all for making that happen. As I write, Tree Spirited Woman is in its third printing. It has sold over 4,000 copies, which is excellent in today’s market. My goal is getting it known outside of Minnesota. If anyone has any suggestions, please send them my way.
Time to leave for my walk.
Enjoy each moment. Peace to you.
This is my first post on my new blog and it’s exciting to think, I’ve stepped into the generation of the blogger, next it will be twitter. Who would have thought?!
There has been a lot happening in my life lately. A few weeks ago I took Sara (my faithful cocker spaniel) for a walk. I decided to walk a part of Stillwater that I never take. After walking a few miles I found myself on a road that bordered one of our local lakes. There was a house for sale so I grabbed a flyer out of the box in the front yard. The price had just dropped. I knew I wanted to look at this house with its 90 feet of shorefront.
When Jim came home from work, I told him about it, called a friend that is an agent who set us up for a showing. Long story… we bought the house! Now what to do with the house we own. We can’t afford to keep the both and didn’t put a contingency in the contract. Time to prepare to put our present house on the market.
I have such respect for those of you, who aren’t savers, know how to get rid of the stuff that isn’t necessary and live in a neat, well organized house. I’m not one of you. If you ever had to do a major de-cluttering you know the panic I’m feeling. All my little treasures are hidden away; no more family pictures around, and I still have stuff!
I believe in balance. Tomorrow is another day and I can only do so much, for now I’m signing off and going for a walk.
